#59 Portrait d'une femme dans la finance: Urvi Thanki
I began my professional journey during a uniquely challenging time—right after university, in the midst of the COVID-19 lockdown. The job market was uncertain, especially for a fresh graduate like me. But I was determined to stand on my own feet and carve out my identity as an independent woman.
My first job was at a startup in Dubai, where I learned to be flexible, resilient, and driven. Then, 2.5 years ago, life brought me to Belgium, where I began working at KBC Bank. Moving to a new country as a foreigner was daunting, but it also opened the door to a new chapter filled with opportunities for learning and growth.
At this stage in my life, I see myself as a sponge—ready to absorb knowledge, experiences, and insights. I strive to evolve a little every day, both professionally and personally. I feel empowered when I’m trusted with responsibilities, and I thrive in spaces that allow me to express creativity while delivering results. Nothing makes me happier than knowing I’ve made someone’s day better—whether it’s with a small gesture or meaningful support.
While I haven’t spent decades in the workforce yet, I deeply value inclusion. It means a lot to me to be seen and heard regardless of my background, gender, age, or ethnicity. Inclusion, for me, is about making space for everyone at the table and acknowledging the hard work each individual puts in.
To the younger version of myself—and to those walking a similar path—I’d say: Don’t listen to those who try to limit your dreams. Everything in life is “figureoutable.” Focus on what brings you joy, laughter, and peace. These are the things that carry you through the hard days.
I often wonder what my future self would say if I asked: What truly makes you happy? What are you working toward? Who have you become? I hope the answers bring me pride and contentment.
To me, leadership is not about dominance but about light—being skilled and insightful while uplifting others. We’re all leaders in our own lives, and every choice we make shapes not just our own path, but also that of those around us.
Allyship means recognizing the effort behind every journey. A kind word, a respectful gesture, or a helping hand costs nothing—but its impact can be priceless.
In the financial sector, I believe we can drive change by making investing accessible for everyone—even those with modest means. Financial literacy, especially among young people, can empower communities and lead to better, more secure futures.
Lastly, I believe in the Karma of life. Good or bad, what you put into the world comes back to you. We create our heaven or hell right here, through the way we live, love, and lead.
